Headteacher’s Welcome

I am delighted to welcome you to Penair School.  I do hope that this website will give you a flavour of the work we do. You will see we are a school with high aspirations for all our students. Penair is a thriving 11-16 school that represents everything that is exciting about comprehensive education. We have an enviable record of examination success, but the staff and governors at Penair believe we can always improve even further.

The core values of our school’s ethos are Pride, Belonging, Learning and Opportunity.

Pride – we want all our students to be proud of being a part of Penair School. We are proud of who we are and of each other. We celebrate each other’s talents and successes every day. We believe that school life must be a really memorable experience that will ensure our students have rewarding and successful lives and are fully prepared for the future. We are confident that Penair provides that experience for every one of its students.

Belonging- at Penair, we have high expectations of pupil’s behaviour.  We expect that our pupil’s grow to respect themselves and others, to look for the good in others and to be honest and trustworthy.   We believe that this is essential throughout the school, allowing our focus to be solely on learning and progress. We want to make sure that your child is a happy, confident individual who feels valued so that they can make a positive contribution during their time at secondary school.  Your child will face their most significant physical, mental and social changes of their lives during their time with us.  Our pastoral programme is designed to support pupils and their families with these changes.

Learning – in a changing world, we have to prepare our pupils to achieve great things and compete locally, regionally, nationally or internationally for the future.  Our curriculum is designed to give pupils the best exposure to learning opportunities both in and outside of school.  As a school, your child will be challenged on an “I can’t do it” attitude to encourage a change in mind-set whereby, they learn to think “I cannot do it yet!”  This mind-set will equip pupils well for the challenges they will face in the future by building confidence and raising aspirations.

Opportunity – here at the Penair, we work hard to unlock potential and develop talent at all levels of ability to ensure that everyone does their best, and that no child is left behind.  The curriculum ensures that every pupil leaves with excellent levels of literacy and numeracy, essential for everyday life.  We look to find and develop other talents including sporting, artistic, musical, dramatic and technological talents.  We have excellent facilities to help to achieve fantastic opportunities.
