Extra-curricular clubs
Sports clubs are very popular. From September we have had badminton (year 7 and 8) and cross country (all years) for both boys and girls. The Autumn term for boys was predominately Rugby and Girls’ netball.
The girls’ also had the opportunity to try girls’ football, hockey and rugby. We have also introduced a basketball club for year 10 and 11 after pupils requested the club. Boys in year 9, 10 and 11 can also attend hockey club.
Last year during the spring term boys were offered football and year 7 & 8 boys’ hockey. The girls could attend netball, hockey, football, and rugby. There are designated evenings in the fitness suite for year 9, 10 & 11 boys and girls.
In the Summer term we offered athletics, tennis, cricket, and rounders.
We are lucky to have some great role models in year 10 and 11 who give up their own time to come and help coach and umpire at year 7 and 8 practices. Clubs are led by our Sport Health and Fitness teachers and also experienced outside coaches for football, badminton and basketball clubs.
Fixtures
Our fixtures in the first term are mainly netball and rugby, term two is hockey, cross country and football and term three is rounders, cricket and athletics. We also take part in tournaments held for other sports like tennis.
Penair is part of the Peninsula Sports Partnership which includes 11 secondary schools in our area. This allows us to play league games once a week and take part and help run festivals to encourage participation.
We also enter county tournaments and cup competitions in many of the sports.
