Extra-curricular clubs
Sports clubs are currently up and running at Penair in year group bubbles.
From September to October half term we are offering netball/hockey and football for year 7 girls. Year 7 boys are being offered rugby and football. The year 7s who have joined us at Penair are enthusiastic and we have high numbers of participants.
In year 8 girls are being offered netball and hockey or a variety of games and boys are offered rugby.
The year 9 and 10 girls are alternating a week of hockey with a week of netball. The year 9 boys have rugby. Year 10 boys have been offered a variety of sports during their afterschool club night, including rugby, football and basketball.

Both year 11 girls and boys have been offered basketball as well as other sports to keep them active and have fun during their final year.
Under normal circumstances when we are not restricted by the corona virus, our clubs often have mixed year groups so we can offer more variety. With a longer lunch break we were also able hold some practices during lunch time. Last year clubs on offer over the three terms included;

Our fixtures in the first term are mainly netball and rugby, term two is hockey, cross country and football and term three is rounders, cricket, athletics. We also take part in tournaments for badminton, table tennis and tennis.
Penair is part of the Peninsula Sports Partnership which includes 11 secondary schools in our area. This allows us to play league games once a week and also take part and help run festivals to encourage participation. We enter county tournaments and cup competitions in many of the sports. Last year we were hoping to attend a gymnastic competition for gymnasts who train outside of school and in the past, we have also attended swimming galas.
In the 2019-20 season we had successes in hockey with girls’ (U13) and three boys’ (U13, U14 and U16) teams qualifying for regionals.
Our girls’ U13 table tennis team had great success, making it to the regional finals in Bristol.
The year 9 netball team came second in the state school regional netball final in Devon.

Once restrictions have been lifted we are looking forward to being able to deliver a similar extracurricular programme as shown in the top table, as well as attend fixtures and tournaments.
